Adventures in Vulnerability

from Locked Down in Leith (2021) by Lou Mclean

/

about

This is a song about coming to terms with a traumatic experience- being pulled in two directions - wanting to be close to people but being unable to because of what happened then.

lyrics

I’ve been hard to love lately
I’ve been hard to love for years
I’ve been living sedately, all my kindness in arrears
The only way I knew to let you in was skin on skin
But I’ve been trying…Yeah I’ve been trying!

Can you pretend that it shocked you?
Even if it isn’t true?
Can you pretend that it shocked you?
Cause a girl like me would want you to?

All the frustration building seemed to explode above tonight
As the sky was turning violet in that pulsing strobing light
I’ve just been a stranger seeking shelter from the storm
Just another lonely human trying to keep warm.

Can you pretend that it shocked you?
Even if it isn’t true?
Can you pretend that it shocked you?
Cause a girl like me would want you to?
