The world is on fire

from Locked Down in Leith (2021) by Lou Mclean

about

This song is about being emotionally honest with yourself while living in an uncertain hellscape :)
I wrote this whilst feeling very nihilistic, but I also realised that actually there is comfort to be found in the love of others, and in acceptance of yourself. It's quite a hopeful and sad wee song about wanting to be loved.
I chose to record it on one mic in my bedroom, as I wanted it to have a simple and intimate sound, with very little production or harmony

lyrics

It’s too late to be calling, it’s too early to be falling
So I keep my heart in a cage, and act my age.
It’s too easy to be angry I’ve been practicing for years
Avoiding this release but now I’m squeezing out my tears
And there’s no use pretending, don’t know who I’m defending anymore
The body keeps the score.

Yeah the world is on fire but I still want to feel alive.
I don’t wanna just exist I wanna melt on your fingertips.
On your fingertips.

He said ‘it’s like breathing underwater’ and I had to agree.
In that single gold-lit moment he’d seen that secret part of me.
That’s the beauty of letting someone in, mirrored reflections of yourself in them.

So yeah the world is on fire but I still want to feel alive.
I don’t wanna just exist I wanna melt on your fingertips.
